ÉLAN Brandy V.S.O.P – Limited Single-Barrel Release

ÉLAN V.S.O.P is a premium brandy produced according to UNESCO-listed southern German distilling techniques. It is based on selected wines from Württemberg, traditionally distilled over an open wood fire and aged for four years in American oak.

Its profile reveals precisely crafted aromas of floral esters, vanilla, candied orange, and fine wood tannins. The entirely artisanal production process, from the selection of raw materials to bottling, guarantees an elegant, smooth V.S.O.P for connoisseurs of high-quality eaux-de-vie.

Behind ÉLAN is a young married couple who combine their diverse experiences and work toward a shared vision: respect for craftsmanship, clarity in design, and the ambition to make quality both visible and palpable.

The founder brings expertise and many years of experience from the wine and spirits industry. The co-founder is a finance lawyer and complements the project with analytical strength and structured thinking.

This shared vision sparked the drive to revitalize old craftsmanship and translate the traditional art of southern German distilling into a contemporary form. In collaboration with a winemaker family who are also friends, we developed ÉLAN V.S.O.P – a brandy that combines precision, finesse, and elegance. Values that also guide us as founders.

ÉLAN Brandy combines the traditional craftsmanship of southern German family distilleries with a modern, exclusive style. Developed over many years of exploring the essence of a premium brandy, it combines deeply rooted distilling expertise with a contemporary character. The design stands for strength, dynamism, and elegance, harmoniously reflecting the high quality of the brandy.

Classification of brandy

Brandy has a traditional age classification system, though it is not strictly regulated outside of Cognac and Armagnac. These designations are usually found on the label:

V.S.

(Very Special)

Youngest brandy aged for at least 2 years in casks.

V.S.O.P.

(Very Superior Old Pale)

Youngest brandy aged for at least 4 years in casks.

X.O.

(Extra Old)

Youngest brandy aged in casks for at least 6 years.

Extra old

(Beyond Age)

Officially equivalent to X.O. for Cognac, but at least 10 years old for Armagnac.

Spain

In southern Spain, around Jerez, one of Europe's most traditional brandy styles is created. Brandy de Jerez is aged using the solera system—a process in which distillates of varying ages are blended together over years. The result: a particularly smooth, complex brandy with character.

France

France is home to some of the most famous brandies in the world. Cognac and Armagnac are produced in clearly defined regions of origin and each follow their own rules for distillation and maturation. Calvados is also part of the French brandy tradition – though it is made not from grapes, but primarily from apples.

Italy

In Italy, Grappa is the primary symbol of the art of distillation. Unlike classic brandy, it is not distilled from wine, but from pomace—the skins, seeds, and other residues of winemaking. Depending on the grape variety and aging, its character ranges from fresh and clear to smooth, spicy, and complex.

Eastern Europe

In large parts of Eastern Europe, fruit distilling has a long tradition. Instead of wine, fruits such as plums, apricots, pears, or cherries form the basis for aromatic distillates here. Particularly well-known are Pálinka from Hungary and various fruit brandies, which are referred to as Pálenka in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Pacific coast of South America is the home of Pisco. Both Peru and Chile look back on a long tradition of grape brandy – yet production, grape varieties, and classification differ significantly. As a result, a distinct Pisco style has developed on both sides of the border.
